We head south, travelling through the Lazio region and into Campania.
Upon arrival in Naples, a short tour up to the Vomero hill offers beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples, including the Vesuvius volcano, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida, plus the rest of the city. After some time spent taking pictures, a piazza lunch is an experience you simply cannot miss out on. After lunch, a visit to the world-famous archaeological site of Pompeii shall introduce you to the ruins left from the tragic moment in 79 AD when the once silent Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying what had been a prosperous Roman city in deadly volcanic ash and gas. Frozen in time, the homes and “cafés”, with their frescoes and mosaics, give us an idea of how people, up until the dreadful day, lived in this flourishing city. Once the visit is over, we drive back to Rome.
