The options for reaching your hotel in the city include a single daily public COTRAL bus that leaves Civitavecchia, from the Largo della Pace, at 2:10 pm and travels to the Cornelia subway stop in Rome, making a stop at the San Paolo Hospital as well.
From the passenger-ship terminal, you must take a port shuttle bus that will transport you, free of charge, to the exit of the port area. Approximately 100 metres away, you will find the bus stop.
This option is one of the least expensive, but it is best for those not pressed for time or in a hurry to get to Rome.
Shuttle bus services are operated by a variety of private companies that can easily be found on Google. Some pick you up right at the ship, while others wait for their clients outside the port area. In that case, you need to reach the pick-up point with a port shuttle bus that takes you outside the port area, where the bus on which you will travel from Civitavecchia to Rome will be waiting.
Once you and all the other passengers have loaded your luggage under the bus, you will have a maximum wait of 30 minutes before leaving for the city. The ride will take approximately 1 hour and forty minutes, plus any additional time needed to deal with the chaotic traffic and then wait for your turn to be dropped off. There can be as many as 5 or 6 stops at other hotels before you reach yours, and by then, you will have already spent roughly 3 hours “on vacation”.
